Mission for Presbyterian Women of Kendall

Our purpose is to create a caring community of women who witness to the kingdom of God. Seeking out opportunities for local and international mission is our way of participating in the healing of our communities.

Local Mission

Kendall Presbyterian Women are known for support of programs that benefit women and children all over southeast Idaho. Local food banks, women’s crisis centers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers and family shelters greatly benefit from PW. Many donate time and financial support to local families, schools, nursing homes, and community relief organizations. Our women staff and finance our Sunday schools, nurseries, youth clubs and Camp Sawtooth. Local Kendall PW groups help support church nurseries, kitchen renovations, carpets and drapes, and recently, a new church roof.

International Mission

Kendall PW provides layettes to our mission hospitals in Kenya, Malawi, and the Congo. The layettes are used to encourage mothers to come to the mission hospitals for care and birthing.

The Networker’s Project is another favorite mission. Proceeds from the sale of Mother’s Day cards are used to provide mothers in Africa and Haiti with mosquito nets so they can protect themselves and their babies from malaria.

Presbyterian women also support the "Equal Exchange" Coffee Program and SERRV. These programs support fair trade practices for farmers and artisans (many of whom are mothers).

New Partnerships, International

The PW Palm Project in the Congo is a new partnership. Planting and harvesting of palm trees for palm oil is work typically done by women. The money from the sale of this palm oil is to be used to subsidize educational programs, hospitals and clinics in the Congo. A $20.00 gift will purchase 10 palm trees.

Checks to support this mission may be written to: PW Palm Project, PCUSA Remittance Processing, P.O. Box 64652, Pittsburgh, PA, 152643652.

Items now being requested by our partners in the Congo: Funds for bicycles (for transporting supplies to sell at market), and funds for mattresses at our mission hospitals especially in the Congo.

Annual PW Thank Offering

Every fall PW groups in Kendall and all over the US will ask for a free will offering from each of its members. At least 40% of the Thank Offering supports hospitals and other health ministries for women and children throughout the world. In 2006 two grant recipients were from Synod of the Pacific. Carpentry Vocational Education for Incarcerated Women, Milpitas, CA, providing basic carpentry and home maintenance skills for incarcerated women. The Letty Owing Center, Portland, OR, helps impoverished women find housing and become self-sufficient.

The first Thank Offering was made in 1888 and altered the course of the worldwide missionary movement. It is reported that this offering saved the missionary movement.

Kendall Mission Ideas

A “Graduation” party was held for a service dog. The owner was presented with a harness, packs, and reflecting logos. The PW group helped purchase the expensive harness.

A drive was sponsored to buy a pig for a family as an overseas mission project. Enough was raised for 3 pigs. Emboldened from their great success next year’s goal is a water buffalo!

Donations of supplies to a local animal shelter.

A highly successful “Italian Night Out” dinner theatre. Complete with spaghetti dinner and a reader’s theatre play.
